Become a Successful Blogger without Losing Yourself
We're all trying to make something of ourselves. We all want to create our own business or excel in our career. It's a never ending battle to be better than the next person so that we are noticed and successful. We're all trying to grow our blogs in a sea of blogs.
There is nothing wrong with being great at what you do and having people support you. The issue might be that we are doing it for the wrong reasons. It's difficult trying to grow your blog in an over-saturated market. I mean, how many recipe blogs can there really be? The point is, there can be a million and all of them CAN be successful, but don't lose yourself a long the way.
Nothing is more upsetting than seeing one of your favorite bloggers sell out. It's disappointed when you followed them from the beginning and you got the see the real them... you feel like you could be friends and then all of a sudden they become this big time success and they lose that aura that made them special and stand out among the rest.
It doesn't help that we are constantly reading information on how to be a blog success. For example, when this website was started, we received never-ending ads on "how to grow your blog using these easy steps", but most of the time the information we received was nothing original. It's the same old "Sign up for my webinar so you can also be successful", but the information that was given was nothing that worked for us. It wasn't even useful.
In the long run does this really work for anyone? Aren't we just making that particular blogger successful by putting our email in their system and they're getting more successful from misleading information, meanwhile we are just waiting for readers to keep coming back for our new posts.
Don't get discouraged. Keep on writing. Write what you're passionate about. You don't need to become like everyone else because that trend will change and maybe you'll be the only original blogger left. Do what makes you happy, we promise followers will come. Keep promoting yourself, but don't lose who you really are.
Violet Nomad is a thought collective, so we cover a lot of topics. Some posts do a lot better than others, but that doesn't mean we stop writing the ones that don't do so well. Why? Because our writers enjoy what they do. They want to create what they feel like creating. And most of the time those posts aren't rejected because 10 people will get something from it. 10 people?! What a terrible number. No. We don't think that. We know that those 10 people matter just as much as the 100,000 that enjoy another post and our writer enjoyed the process of creating the piece... and that's all that matters.
You have to find your niche, and to get followers/readers you really have to know what they like and continue writing content, but if you lose yourself along the way then what was the point of working for yourself? So we say keep writing what you love. When more people discover it, they'll share with their friends and so on...
Sometimes offering free information is also the way to go. You may offer free downloads so you can get emails and which results in more readers. That isn't a bad thing to do, but just make sure you are doing it for you and you're creating content you love. Try to come up with some original content because eventually new bloggers aren't going to be interested in your 5 easy steps to grow your blog to $5000 a month. They'll know you're writing that just for viewers.
So, as a thank you to all our readers, if you are also trying to grow your blog, we will give you a shout out on our Instagram if you want. Leave a comment below with your username and website. You can also follow us, but you don't need to. Send us some of your Pins and we will do our best to repin them to our Pinterest.
Let's become a community of actually supporting each other rather than trying to be better than the next person. That's what we are passionate about here. That's how we haven't lost who we were when we started. That's how we can all keep writing what we enjoy. We can all be successful together. Let's lift each other up!
